Its name derives from the Greek word <em>leukosia<\/em> (\u039b\u03b5\u03c5\u03ba\u03c9\u03c3\u03af\u03b1, pronounced <em>lefkos\u00eda <\/em>in modern Greek) and is linked to the legend of the siren Leucosia who died after throwing herself from the cliffs on the coast, after she was unable to seduce Ulysses.
